While there I visited the former US Army housing area and AFRC buildings. The US military in Germany made use of Berchtesgaden and the surrounding area as a recreation center from 1953 to 1996. My family made use of the AFRC resorts during our stay in Germany in the 1970s, we stayed here in the Alpine Inn place in 1975 or 1976. The housing area looked quite pleasant, Berchtesgaden must have been a good posting.
