American Red Cross Eagle Club, Wiesbaden, 1946
(author's collection)
Wiesbaden, a resort town located close to the confluence of the Rhine and Main rivers, about a half-hour drive west of Frankfurt, was occupied by the Americans at the end of the war in Europe. Because of its central location within the US Zone of Occupation, the city served as the administrative headquarters for several US Army commands, including Military Government, Air Forces in Europe, some hospital and infantry units, and the American Red Cross.
The Wiesbaden Kurhaus was converted to a large club with facilities for serving food, a modern library, game and hobby rooms, and a music hall.
